chamber music

1987 Mobius, Boston, MA.

Installation for performance by Berlin musician, Julius

materials: perforated sheet metal, wood, paint, mirror, scrim, lights
dimensions: square floor plan of 9′ x 21′ x 21′

The square floor plan of this 9′ x 21′ x 21′ performance set was positioned at a 45 degree angle within the square space of a larger room. This created four triangular corner spaces for the audience to occupy and watch the performance through the openings in the walls of the inner chamber.

Julius created sounds reminiscent of insects on a summer night by changing light levels on solar cells that were connected to magnets and a series of wired Sony Walkmans. The materials in the set responded dramatically to the changing light levels.
