bi op see
2009 Boston Sculptors Gallery, Boston, MA
materials: perforated aluminum, paint, mirror mylar, foam, plastic, fiberglass, ceramic
dimensions: 9′ x 22′ x 5′
Created with the desire to SEE more intensely and coalesce moments of clarity from the complexity of experience, bi op see digs beneath the surface. Structural integrity and ephemeral transparency are provided by perforated aluminum skin and bones. Viewed from the backlit side, the piece seems to have no substance. On the other side light reveals a visceral animal presence. Concentrations of substance and meaning exist within this illusive field. The penetrating “scopes” are lined with mirrored surfaces that amplify and intensify presence by visually projecting objects of investigation up to the surface.
