As the signature landmark of the Hamilton Canal District, the City of Lowell's centerpiece redevelopment initiative, this large-scale sculpture celebrates the hydro energy that powered the first great industrial city in America. Sited where historic canals converge, the Point Park sculpture will be a highly visible beacon for Lowell's Arts and Culture District. The initial proposal included a spiral staircase and slide that would enable children to experience this energy as they slid down the 13-foot elevation difference that powered mills at this site. The final design evolved to express the feeling of flowing through a turbine with sculptural forms that invite all to explore the journey.
